How do I know if my loved one needs Assisted Living or can live safely in an Independent Senior Living Community?

March 2, 2014 by Dawn Dumont

One must recognize that what may be the appropriate housing option for a senior today, may be inappropriate tomorrow, because of unpredictable changes in health status. If in general, however, your family member is somewhat independent and does not require constant care, the options are: Assisted Living or Independent Senior Living Communities.

Independent living communities are more appropriate for seniors who are able to live alone and who are responsible for their own care, but no longer want the burden of maintaining a house. They may desire more socialization with other active seniors, or wish to join in a fitness class, take planned day trips, or enjoy age-appropriate entertainment. These activities are examples of the broad range of amenities offered by Independent Senior Living Communities.

Client Expressions

I’m not sure how I would have coordinated my uncle’s move from the Concord Hospital to assisted living without you. I know your consultants do not customarily transport clients to tours. You were very gracious for taking him on tours and making ALL the necessary arrangements to get him settled. When I visit my uncle, I do hope we will have the pleasure to meet. I know he would also be glad to see you. Thanks again for all your help and positive demeanor.
