What are Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs)?

March 2, 2014 by Dawn Dumont

These communities provide older adults with a continuum of care ranging from complete independence, often in your own home or condominium, to assisted living, all the way through to skilled care provided in a nursing home. The goal is to extend your level of independence and quality of life until your needs are better met at the next level of care. The advantage of moving to a CCRC is that the transition is made when the individual or couple are independent and in relatively good health. Social bonds are formed and most people enjoy the benefits of a living in a community, which offers a broad spectrum of services and amenities. CCRCs provide another benefit to couples, where the husband or wife may require a higher level of care. These communities enable the couple to live in close proximity, which allows for frequent visits without arranging for transportation.

I got nowhere with the lists. One conversation and you knew exactly what we were looking for. “The Young Home” is perfect, just as you said it was!
