Who covers the cost of Assisted Living for Veterans in New Hampshire?

March 2, 2014 by Dawn Dumont

The Aid and Attendance (A&A) Pension Program is a Federally Funded Program for wartime Veterans and their spouses. The A&A Program provides financial assistance for those who require regular assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) from a health care worker. This may include in-home care or care within an Assisted Living Community or Nursing Home.

The 2014 reimbursement rates for the A&A Pension Program can provide up to $1,758 per month to a veteran, $1,380 to a well Veteran with an ill spouse, $1,130 per month to a surviving spouse, or $2,085 per month to a couple. In addition to having served for 90 days with one day during active wartime, must meet medical and financial eligibility requirements. Applications take approximately 6 months to process. Payment is sent directly to senior or their family and not to the community or agency providing care.

With Mom being in and out of rehab, it was a relief to know there was an Assisted Living Community that could accommodate her while providing physical rehab.
