The cost of Assisted Living is the responsibility of the resident and/or patient’s family. Private Health Insurance and Medicare does not cover any portion of Assisted Living. In the state of New Hampshire, Medicaid (Choices for Independence Program) will cover the cost of care once a resident’s assets reach a specified threshold. If a senior lives within a private pay community and exhausts private funds, they will most probably need to relocate to a community that accepts Medicaid. Veterans and surviving spouses may be entitled to money from the Federal Government to off set the cost of services.
